All year, NJROTC cadets learn about military traditions, drill, and ceremonies. On a Saturday night in the Terrace, they put it all into action with a formal and informal ceremony for this year’s Military Ball.
The President of the Mess, NJROTC Company Executive Officer Cadet Lieutenant Darien Alexander ‘19, led the ceremony to formally recognize the senior class and introduce the honored guests. Cadet Commander Michael Seriè ‘19 and Cadet Lieutenant Commander William Spedale ‘19 joined Commander Bruce Nolan ‘90, Chief Petty Officer Terry Necaise, and Mrs. Kelly Wild as the guest of honor to witness the traditions of the Mess Night. The Master of Ceremonies for the night, Cadet Master Chief Darius Alexander ‘19, led the informal ceremony before and after dinner. Known in the Navy as Mr. Vice (for Vice-President of the Mess), he entertains the group while ensuring that everything runs smoothly. He presented the meal to Mr. President to ensure it was of the highest quality. Navy traditions require that the first sample is rejected and the actual meal is approved.
The Culinary Crusaders prepared and served an incredible meal for guests. After dinner, the Company’s youngest cadet, Journey Harris ‘22 tried the first piece of cake. Determining it was of the highest quality, the Commanding Officer presented a piece to his date and the senior Sailor present, Chief Necaise. Our parent group did an incredible job of decorating the Terrace to reflect the traditions of the Navy and Brother Martin. After the meal, cadets and their dates danced the night away and enjoyed the evening. When the lights came on at the end of the night, the final cadets said their goodbyes and are already looking forward to next year’s Ball.
