The Brother Martin Baseball Program continues to build on a long-standing tradition of excellence, defined by consistent postseason success, strong player development, and a commitment to the values of teamwork, discipline, and selflessness.
The varsity team has qualified for the LHSAA state playoffs for more than two decades, regularly competing among Louisiana’s premier high school baseball programs. In 2025, the Crusaders enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in school history, advancing to the LHSAA Division I Select State Championship Series and finishing as state runners-up. The appearance marked the program’s first trip to the state championship series in 29 years. Brother Martin tied the school record with 31 victories and established itself as one of the state's top programs.
The Crusaders followed that historic season with an even more impressive campaign in the spring 2026. Brother Martin produced the strongest regular season in program history, earning the first No. 1 playoff seed in school history while capturing the program’s 10th district championship. The title also marked the fourth Catholic League championship under Head Coach Jeffrey Lupo. The Crusaders set a new school record with 35 victories and earned multiple national Top 25 rankings, further solidifying Brother Martin’s reputation as one of Louisiana’s premier baseball programs and gaining recognition among the nation’s elite high school teams.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Jeffrey Lupo ’92, who enters his tenth season at the helm, Brother Martin Baseball has sustained success in both regular-season and postseason competition. Coach Lupo has guided the Crusaders to the state playoffs in every season as head coach while capturing four Catholic League championships. Brother Martin competes in District 9-5A, widely regarded as one of the most competitive baseball districts in Louisiana. As a result, each district title and playoff berth represents a significant achievement. Prior to the program’s recent back-to-back championship runs, the Crusaders reached the state semifinals twice under Lupo, laying the foundation for their historic advancement and further establishing Brother Martin among the state’s elite programs. The coaching staff continues to emphasize a team-first culture while upholding the tradition of excellence that has defined Brother Martin Baseball for generations.
The program has benefited from ongoing investment in player development and facilities, including a recently completed on-campus batting and training facility, which provides year-round access for skill development and preparation. Brother Martin High School looks to continue further development and renovation of E.A. Farley Field. Development of a state-of-the-art athletic complex is expected to begin in the summer of 2026.
Baseball practices begin in early January for varsity and junior varsity teams, with 8th and 9th grade teams starting in late January or early February. All teams participate in a structured tryout process. Sub-varsity seasons run from mid-February through mid-April, while the varsity season begins in early February and extends into early May, including postseason play.
Following the spring season, the program continues through summer baseball with teams sponsored by K’s for Kids, a nonprofit organization founded by Brother Martin baseball alumnus Keagan Gillies. The Crusaders have recently earned back-to-back championships in the Crescent City Sports Summer Prep League while competing in regional showcase tournaments at premier high school and collegiate venues, including LSU, Tulane, and the University of New Orleans’ Maestri Field, along with other facilities throughout the region. A junior varsity summer team also competes during this period. After the summer season, returning players who are not involved in another sport begin a comprehensive weightlifting and conditioning program that runs from mid-August through the start of the following season. Strength training continues throughout the year for varsity and junior varsity players.
Community service remains a vital component of the Brother Martin Baseball Program. The Crusaders proudly host the annual All-Star Weekend at E.A. Farley Field in partnership with Children’s Hospital and Miracle League of New Orleans. The event includes games, clinics, food, music, and a silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting the Miracle League of Greater New Orleans. This event reflects the program’s dedication to leadership, service, and making a positive impact beyond the baseball field.
