Welcome to Brother Martin High School!
We are glad you are visiting our website and learning more about our school. There is a lot to learn!
Our past 150+ years of educating and forming young men in the greater New Orleans area at St. Aloysius, Cor Jesu, and Brother Martin High School is certainly something we are proud of. Our founder, Father Andre Coindre, who established the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in 1821, would undoubtedly be proud of the commitment he made “to take care of kids” that still takes place in our hallways today! He would see the same religious values, academic excellence, personal attention, and friendly discipline with which he started his order, educating young boys in Lyon, France.
Yes, fewer religious brothers are serving our mission; however, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart have intentionally trained men and women who are “partners in mission” to carry on their tradition and the charism of Father Coindre. We also have 48 of our graduates serving as faculty--men who lived their experience as students who now live this experience as teachers and coaches. The legacy lives on!
We are now thriving in the 21st century with state-of-the-art facilities, a rigorous curriculum that prepares our students for college and life beyond high school, extensive athletic and extracurricular programs that help young men develop holistically, and a commitment to promoting the Catholic faith and Jesus’ Gospel values. Knowing that an education at Brother Martin High School goes beyond the classroom is essential. As our namesake Brother Martin Hernandez, S.C. stated, “We are not here to teach boys how to make a living, but how to make a life.”
One of our hallmarks at Brother Martin is “fidelity to change,” a seemingly paradoxical phrase but one that perfectly describes our long-time commitment to respecting our past but not letting it determine solely our present and future. Strategic planning and master planning for facility improvements are tangible examples of how we change “to meet the needs of our changing world,” as our mission statement describes, while never veering from our core values, which are as needed, if not more so, in the 2020s as they were in the 1820s!
Thank you for taking the time to “visit” our school. Come on in, take a close look, and make us your home, as thousands of young men have over the years. We are glad to have you here.
