Socratic Seminars: Religion III Digests Social Justice Topics with “A Lesson Before Dying”

During the spring semester, Mr. Gerald Ursin and Dr. Tony Melito’s Junior Religion classes are discussing the topics of social justice. To supplement these topics, each class has started to read Ernest J. Gaines’ novel A Lesson Before Dying. The novel focuses on the topics of capital punishment and the dignity and respect of human life. Throughout this semester, students will use the Socratic seminar method to discuss and dialog about the book during class. A Lesson Before Dying brings to life the issues in which our students learn throughout the semester in Religion III.
