The Class of 2016, friends, family, and Brother Martin faculty came together for the 2016 Brother Martin Graduation Mass. This solemn event took place at St. Joseph’s Church on Tulane Ave. in New Orleans on Sunday, May 15, 2016. Ordained Brother of the Sacred Heart Louis Couvillon, S.C., was the celebrant. During his homily, Bro. Louis reminded the seniors of their time at Brother Martin, stressing the importance of having “courage and confidence” as they embark on their new journey after graduation. After communion, Principal Greg Rando ’77 provided a reflection in which he challenged the seniors to use their various gifts and services to live up to their potential as graduates of Brother Martin High School. In addition, Mr. Rando reminded the students of Father Coindre’s message to one of the brothers in the 1820s that we all must have “courage and confidence” in our work and to call upon our God-given inner strength to face the difficulties and challenges in our lives.
Prior to Mr. Rando’s reflection, a commissioning service for the Class of the 2016 occurred, with the seniors renewing vows of continuing their education and mission with charism as learned at Brother Martin. In conclusion, each senior received a small Brothers of the Sacred Heart escutcheon —a coat of arms—identifying the Brothers of the Sacred Heart–and a special Brother Martin rosary.
“Please know that all of us–and Christ–are with you as you venture out ‘to respond to God’s love.’” Principal Gregory Rando ’77
Graduation will take place at the UNO Lakefront Arena on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 6 p.m.
