Brother Martin won the team title in the George Trygg Invitational at Grace King Saturday after their annual trip to Memphis was cut short due to the inclement weather. The team finished a dual meet vs. Christian Brothers (TN), found out about the ice storm, and immediately drove to Jackson, MS only to arrive at 2 a.m. Friday morning. The team drove back to school later that day and decided to compete in the Trygg Invitational that afternoon.
The Crusaders took the team title with 317 points while Pearl River came in second with 133 points.
Brother Martin’s Paul Klein, the champion in the 132-pound class, was selected as the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Brother Martin placed 13 wrestlers in the finals of the 14 weight classes and won 11, including 106 (Steven Shields), 113 (Kyle Dunn), 120 (Ryan Genco), 126 (Taylor Gambill), 138 (Blaine Eisenhord), 152 (Mason Williams), 170 (Nick Comardelle), 182 (Travis Viener), 195 (Josh Tapia) and 220 (Jacob Clapp).
The Crusaders will face Catholic High in a dual meet this Wednesday in the Conlin Gym. The action starts at 6:30.
