This weekend the Crusader Wrestling team competed in the State Championship Tournament at the Pontchartrain Center. With a full team effort, the Crusaders scored 283 points. Individual State Champ Paul Klein helped widen the gap by upsetting top-seeded Jesuit junior Mitch Capella. Brother Martin also had five state runners-up — seniors Blake Schmitt at 113 pounds, Dominic Casadaban at 120, Junior Kyle Delaune at 170, Senior Dylan Dunn at 182, and Senior Gerard Roman at 195 — all who contributed in racking up 279 points through Sunday’s afternoon semifinals and consolation rounds. The Crusaders entered the evening championship round holding a 15-point advantage over Catholic–Baton Rouge, with Rummel third at another point back, and never looked back. After the 160 lb. match, the Crusaders sealed up the victory bringing the State Title back to Elysian Fields.
