The Brother Martin NJROTC hosted Rear Admiral Craig Mattingly, the Commander of Naval Service Training Command, who discussed with our Crusader Company what it takes to be a leader in our world today. Admiral Mattingly oversees a command portfolio of all NJROTC units, college Navy ROTC, Officer Candidate Schools, and the Navy Boot Camp. Other than the Naval Academy, Admiral Mattingly provides policy and guidance for every new sailor entering the Navy.

Admiral Mattingly talked about the two core values he believes good leaders possess: caring and commitment. He demonstrated this care by taking the time to get to know every single cadet present in the Auditorium. Teams perform when every member is strong, and leaders must promote a culture of caring for others. He said one of the best parts of his job is that he is able to travel around the country, connecting with our rising leaders and discussing any concerns they may have.

The Admiral took the time to hear and answer questions from our cadets for over 45 minutes. Cadets asked about his career, how the Navy's training changes throughout the years, and how to take care of oneself through the challenges of high school and beyond. "The Navy believes in Warrior Toughness," he said. "It is not just about performing. It is about your mind, body, and soul making up your health portfolio to always be the best member of the team." 

The Crusader Company also hosted three new cadets from Ursuline Academy who are cross-enrolled with our NJROTC program. Our NJROTC began this partnership to provide opportunities for an all-female school to participate in this program that helps to create leaders. No other all-female school nationwide has a Navy JROTC program. These cadets will be able to participate in all activities available to our Crusader Company cadets. We look forward to growing this program over the next few years, and we thank these trailblazers for their willingness to lead. 

It was a rare honor to host one of the top leaders in the Navy on our campus. We would like to thank Admiral Mattingly and his staff for giving their time in service to our Crusaders, the next generation of our nation's leaders.
