Brother Martin improved to 14-0 with the 10-5 win over Grace King at Bonnabel on Wednesday night. On the rubber for the Crusaders was Keagan Gillies who surrendered just two hits, no earned runs, no walks, and four strike outs during three innings of work.
The Crusaders never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring three runs on a three-run home run by LSU signee Gregory Deichmann. One run in the top of the second helped Grace King close its deficit to 3-1, but that was all the Irish could muster up.
Brother Martin answered back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the second, scoring on bases loaded walk by the Irish hurler and a home run by Jarett Gongora.
Grace King cut the deficit to four runs after pushing across four runs in the top of the fifth. The Irish scored on a leadoff double, a catcher-interference call, a walk, an RBI single, and a sac groundout. Deichmann ended the rally by throwing out a runner out the plate and made a spinning throw-out at first to help his team get out of the jam. Finally, Michael Kirsch induced an inning-ending strike out from Anthony Marino.
Brother Martin would manage two more runs to finish the game with a final score of 10-5.
The Crusaders hit the field again on Thursday at 4:00 pm at Hahnville and this weekend at 10:00 am vs. Central Lafourche @ Destrehan on Saturday, 3:00 pm on Saturday vs. Destrehan, and Sunday vs. West Ouachita High School at Hahnville at 11:00 am.
