On August 11, Brother Martin hosted one of the largest Trivia Nights on campus to date. The Brother Mark Thornton Terrace was filled with 19 competing teams consisting of parents, faculty, and alumni vying for the Trivia Night VII Championship. Pizza from Happy Italian, Cane’s Chicken fingers and cold beverages were provided by the Advancement Office. Challenge Entertainment and Live Trivia (James Maumus ’89, Jeff Maumus ’97 & Miguel Sanchez ’00) sponsored the event along with Missy and Michael Collins ’88.
During a brief intermission, guests were able to visit the newly renovated Tom and Gayle Benson Mall while hearing about the improvements to the kitchen area. Advancement and Alumni Director, Kenny Spellman ’84, and special guest Brother Martin President Greg Rando ’77 thanked all of our guests that support Brother Martin’s efforts in continuing our mission of educating young men for life. Without participation from our school community, none of these great improvements for Brother Martin would be possible.
“This is a great event,” said Roxanne Valenti, current parent. “It’s my first time attending and I got to see friends I haven't seen in a while.” Dr. Jesse Selser ’02 mentioned “This is my third time attending Trivia Night and it has been more fun each time. I enjoy getting to catch up with fellow alums and that it isn’t taken too seriously. I look forward to the next one.”
The evening ended with the presentation of three awards. Mall of Duty, a team consisting of Alan Thriffiley, Jr. ’95, Tim Thriffiley ’82, Alan Thriffiley, Sr. ’71, Joey Larocca ’01 and Wayne Phillpott, Jr. ’97 earned Runner-up honors and a gift card to Katie’s Restaurant and Brews Cruise Brewery Tours. The big winners of the night were Team Castjohn, made up of Angie and Josh Thomas ’97, Sarah and Billy Rieger ’95, Cheryl and Nick Castjohn ’95. Team Castjohn won the Trivia prize of a Brother Martin Bookstore gift certificate and the Trivia Night VII 1st place prize of a gift card to Katie’s Restaurant and Brews Cruise Brewery Tours. Their team name is now engraved on the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Cup!
