On Tuesday evening, December 12, the harmonious sounds of the Crusader Chorus and Alumni Chorus filled St. Catherine of Siena Church for their annual Christmas Concert. Not only was all of the Crusader Chorus present, but the Alumni Chorus was featured alongside the Crusader Chorus, as they sang for Brother Martin families and friends. Over 100 chorus members performed an array of songs while Mr. Kevin Caparotta ’88 served as the conductor. Some of the songs performed were “Silent Night,” “Go, Tell It On The Mountain” and many more. Also, a crowd favorite was “The Boatmen’s Dance” with a solo performance by Daniel Wellmeier ’20.
“For me, singing as an individual is frightening. Singing as a chorus is empowering.” Adam Schwarzenbach ’18
Following the many beautiful musical pieces from our Crusader Chorus members, the Alumni Chorus made their way onto the Altar for their performance of “O Tannenbaum” with Drew Haro ’03 and Paul Boquet ’01 as soloists. They followed with an arrangement of “I Know I’ve Been Changed” with Antonio Domino ’17, Sidney Rougelot ’06 and Justin Blanchard ’14 as soloists.
Director of Chorus Kevin Caparotta ’88 was also present in the group for this special performance. He commented that, “it is always great for the alumni chorus to come back together to socialize and to make music together again. It is also an opportunity to sing together with other alums, sometimes for the first time ever.”
Additionally, our Chorus and guests were surprised with a Brother Martin Fine Arts Legacy in the audience. Mr. Michael Cottingham was the founding Director of the Brother Martin Chorus Program in 1969. He directed the Chorus until 1983 when Executive Vice President Greg Rando ’77 took over as Director in 1984. We are so grateful for their opportunity to be pictured together after the concert, and for the hard work that Mr. Cottingham, Mr. Rando and Mr. Caparotta have devoted to the Brother Martin Chorus Program throughout the years.
At the end of the concert, all Brother Martin alumni in the audience were asked to join their fellow choral Crusaders on the Altar to sing “O Sacred Heart,” which is featured in the video below.
Thank you Director Kevin Caparotta ’88 and the Crusader Chorus on their performance during this most wonderful time of the year!
