Last week, members of the Class of 2017 and their parents attended “Take the Next Step,” our annual college night just for juniors. The evening started with a college browsing time, when students and their parents could speak to admissions representatives and pick up brochures from over 15 colleges, including Tulane, LSU, and University of Louisiana–Lafayette. Following this time, students and parents had a choice of twelve sessions to attend, from presentations ranging from “Choosing the ‘Best Fit’ School” (presented by Brother Martin 2013 graduate and current student at Millsaps College Benton Brown and his mother Dionne Brown) to “Applying to Competitive Colleges and Universities” (presented by Ms. Sarah Varner, Tulane Admissions Counselor). Other sessions focused on collegiate athletic participation, Greek life, writing the admissions essay, and careers in engineering.
This program is another part of Brother Martin’s expansive and multi-year efforts to educate students and parents on the college selection and application process.
