Student Council Attends Catholic Leadership Institute

2015-2016 Student Council

Patrick Newberger ’17 & Nickie Toups ’16 on the final day of the Catholic Leadership Institute.

This past summer Brother Martin High School sent members of its Student Council Executive Board to the Catholic Leadership Institute. It is a practice of Student Council to send newly elected Executive Board members to a workshop or retreat in order to prepare for the duties and responsibilities of the coming school year. This year Student Council Vice President Patrick Newberger ’17, Art Committee Chairman Andrew Butler ’18, and Executive Board Appointed Members Joseph Porche’ III ’16  and Nickie Toups ’16 were sent to Baton Rouge along with members from other New Orleans area high schools and CYOs to develop their spiritual and leadership skills.

The Catholic Leadership Institute is a five day training program which covers the topics of communication, embracing diversity, event planning, group dynamics, and evangelization. Participants took part in presentations, group activities, recreational free time, and mass at the conclusion of each day. The Catholic Leadership Institute’s goal of forming the whole person through spiritual and leadership exercises is an enriching experience that is beneficial to all who to attend.

“We definitely bonded as a group.”  – Nickie Toups ’16
“One of the greatest weeks ever with some of the greatest people I’ve ever met.”- Joseph Porche’ III ’16
