Stellar Shooting Leads Crusaders to Victory

IMG_5582The Crusaders opened play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Tournament against the Shaw Eagles Wednesday night in the Conlin Gym.  Brother Martin came out hot and took control early with Jordan Cornish scoring eight points in the first quarter to give Brother Martin a 12-3 lead.

Leading by 13 after one quarter, the Crusaders opened the second frame on an 11-6 run highlighted by two layups from Cornish and put-back bucket by Luke Walker.

Brother Martin headed to the halftime break up 36-20 and added to that lead in the third and fourth quarters, putting the game out of reach with a quick 8-0 run to open the second half.  The Crusaders finished with a 74-38 victory over the Shaw Eagles.

Cornish led the Crusaders with 24 points, while Luke Walker added 13 points.

The Crusaders will play Newman in the second round tonight at 7:30 in the Conlin Gym.  Go ‘Saders!
