St. Aloysius Class of 1964 Dedicates Historical Marker

Cover picMembers of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association gathered for the dedication of a historical marker at the former site of St. Aloysius College (1869 – 1969).  The marker was sponsored and dedicated on June 19, 2015 by members of the St. Aloysius Class of 1964.  Currently occupying the site, are the St. Aloysius Apartments, an HRI property. Fr. Mike Schneller ’64 SA and Deacon Terry Manieri ’64 SA blessed the marker, Larry Centola ’64 SA and Tom Nenos ’64 SA shared comments and Michael Duplantier ’64 SA and Ken Hunter ’64 SA (formerly Bro. Marvin) unveiled the marker.  Chris Clement ’98, HRI Properties, Kenny Spellman ’84, Alumni Director, and members of the St. Aloysius Class of 1966 were in attendance.

St. Aloysius College

1869-1969

Founded in 1869 by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart on Chartres Street in the Vieux Carre, St. Aloysius College moved in 1892 to a building on Rampart Street, then in 1925 to a new building at the corner of Esplanade Avenue and Rampart Street.  St. Aloysius closed in 1969 after one hundred years, as part of the founding of Brother Martin High School on Elysian Fields Avenue.
