Soccer Wins Thriller Over Jesuit on Senior Day

IMG_6937On Saturday, January 25th, the Brother Martin soccer team made a special memory for the senior team members on Senior Day.

Brother Martin outscored Jesuit 4-3 on penalty kicks after two scoreless overtime periods when Mark Mangum’s kick landed in the goal for the score and win.  The victory keeps the Crusaders undefeated this season.

After a scoreless first half, Jesuit found the back of the net first in the 64th minute.  Brother Martin scored in the closing minutes of regulation to tie the game at 1. Cristian Canales fought hard for a lose ball and kicked the ball into the goal in the 72nd minute.

In penalty kicks, the Crusaders fell behind early.  Jesuit scored its first two kicks while Peter Brooks scored for the Crusaders, but Pierce Rubenstein’s shot bounced off the post to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. After another Jesuit kick went in, Canales converted his for a goal as well to keep things tied.

Crusader keeper, Collin St. Pierre, who rejoined the team this season after a couple years off, stopped Jesuit’s next shot attempt with a diving save while John Fourcade tied the shootout at 3-3. Then St. Pierre came up big again with another save before Mangum finished the game with his goal.
