brother-martins-miles-francis-1aa3c91e426e50a5Brother Martin (5-1-4) started 2015 with a non-district match against fellow Brothers of the Sacred Heart school Vandebilt Catholic, and after 90 minutes, the Crusaders captured a 2-0 victory at Pan American Stadium. Senior Zachary Ward scored in the ninth minute as the Crusaders controlled play en route to the victory at Pan American Stadium.

Ward scored the first goal of the match in the ninth minute off an assist from Miles Francis.  Francis weaved through a defender near midfield and raced up the sideline and sent a low crossing pass in the box that was put away by Ward for a 1-0 lead.

The Crusaders almost got another first half goal in the 28th minute but William Thiele’s free kick was saved by the Terrier keeper.

Vandebilt generated two corners early in the second half but failed to convert on both attempts. Brother Martin was knocking on the door once again in the 53rd minute as the Terrier keeper made a save on the shot from Patrick Quinn, and Brandon Robbins rebound shot curved wide.

The Crusaders finally got their second goal in the 70th minute from Miles Francis.

Brother Martin will play Jesuit on Friday, January 9th at 6:00 pm at John Ryan Stadium.
