Soccer Clinches District Championship with 1-1 Tie

The Crusader soccer team claimed the outright District 6-I title on Saturday by virtue of a 1-1 draw against the Jesuit Blue Jays. Both teams came into Saturday’s match undefeated in district play, however the Blue Jays had tied John Ehret earlier in the season, meaning all the Crusaders needed to do Saturday was win or tie in order to win district.  This district crown is the first for the Crusaders since 2014. Brother Martin took a 1-0 lead in the 29thminute after Ryan Simoneaux scored on a nice angle from inside the box. The Blue Jays were able to score right before halftime after a defensive miscue by the Crusaders. In the second half, Jesuit attempted six shots on goal, but goalkeeper Camron Murphy came up with huge saves and the Crusaders were able to hang on for the district championship.

The Crusader soccer team will close out the regular season against the Newman Greenies on Tuesday, January 31 at Tad Gormley for 3:30 p.m.
