Last week, in the historic St. Louis Cathedral, the Class of 2017 received their senior class rings. Rain could not dampen the spirit of the seniors as they took the first big step of their senior year. Bro. Louis Couvillon, S.C., Ordained Brother of the Sacred Heart, celebrated the Mass on Thursday, August 25, 2016. Bro. Louis noted that the Readings provided timely encouragement for the seniors; the Readings and Gospel reminded them of the Holy Spirit’s willing intervention in their lives whenever they call upon God. While the Holy Spirit may inspire each senior differently, the same Spirit is accessible to all of us; we just need to ask.
Mr. John Devlin, President of Brother Martin, also reflected on the timeliness of the readings as the seniors are called to be leaders. He reminded the seniors of Bro. Martin Hernandez’s last will and testament where Bro. Martin acknowledged that any good he’s done was simply from his being an instrument of God. Mr. Devlin continued to challenge the seniors be leaders and instruments of God much like our namesake Bro. Martin Hernandez. The seniors then received the their rings. Amid the clatter of a few dropped rings, the chorus and seniors sang “O Sacred Heart,” then the seniors left the cathedral to celebrate with family and friends.
