On Wednesday, Sept. 12, The Social Studies Department, in association with the Lower 9th Ward Voter's Coalition, conducted a Voter Registration Drive. Eligible members of the Class of 2019 were invited to the Benson Mall, where Mr.Walter Goodwin and Ms. Shawon Bernard of the Lower 9th Ward Voter's Coalition spoke of the importance in voting in local and state elections. Students were given voter registration forms and offered assistance from Mr. Goodwin, Ms. Bernard, and Mr. Christopher Vicknair, Brother Martin Social Studies Department Chair, in completing the forms.
Asked about the effort, Mr. Vicknair said, "We collected registration forms from approximately 58 Seniors! I was very impressed with how our guys approached voter registration. I also really appreciate the Lower 9th Ward Voter's Coalition reaching out to us to participate and the Civics teachers' help in organizing this day for our students."
