Science Teachers Uncover the Culprit

On Tuesday, members of the Science Department participated in a day-long training session with Leigh Brown of Bio-Rad, Inc.   Ms. Brown came to Brother Martin to train some of the Biology, Chemistry, and 7th Grade Life Science teachers on techniques of gel electrophoresis and DNA fingerprinting.  During the training, teachers learned how to use micro-pipets, pour agar for gels, run electrophoresis gels to determine the Food Dyes in M & M’s, and use DNA fingerprinting to find the “culprit” in a simulated crime.  The Science Department hopes to start using this equipment with students in the near future.
