Scholar Athletes Recognized at National Football Foundation Ceremony

Senior football players Zachary Kael, Rory Luke and Roderic Teamer were selected as Scholar-Athletes by the All-State Sugar Bowl Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame earlier in the year. These Crusaders were 3 of the 33 honored at the annual Scholar-Athlete Award Luncheon on Tuesday, April 21st at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Thirty-three local high school football players were recognized for their achievements in the classroom and on the football field. The honorees were chosen from a nominated group of talented scholar athletes from the New Orleans area. Archie Manning, the national chairman of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame, recognized each of the 33 student athletes at the event.

Zachary Randall Kael – Offensive Lineman

Academic Achievements: National Honor Society; academic letterman; Andy Douglass Memorial Award (highest GPA on football team).
Athletic Achievements: Three-year letterman; Bob Conlin Award winner; also lettered in track & field.
Extracurricular Activities: Student Ambassador; student ministry; student recruiting team; church CYO; volunteered at Animal Rescue New Orleans, Habitat for Humanity and Trees for Katrina.
Name of College Attending: Either Louisiana State University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette or University of Alabama.

Rory Paul Luke, Jr. – Offensive Lineman

Academic Achievements: National Honor Society; academic letterman.
Athletic Achievements: Three-year letterman; all-district; Clarion Herald Elite Football Team; Bob Conlin Award winner.
Extracurricular Activities: Student recruiting team; student ministry; Student Council; Lacrosse Club; Close-Up; church CYO; youth basketball coach; church’s leadership council.
Name of College Attending: LSU.

Roderic Fitzgerald Teamer, Jr. – Safety

Athletic Achievements: Three-year letterman; Bob Conlin Award winner; all-district; all-metro; LSWA All-State Football Team.
Extracurricular Activities: Jack and Jill of America, Inc., New Orleans Chapter (served as Treasurer, Sgt. At Arms, Parliamentarian); volunteers at Covenant House, Ozanam Inn, and Sheriff Gusman’s Easter Egg Hunt and Thanksgiving dinner.
Name of College Attending: Tulane University.
