Saints Center Will Clapp ’14 Joins Chevron and Sports Foundation in Recognizing Scholar-Athletes

In partnership with Chevron, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation honored 22 High School Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the 2019-2020 school year.

The virtual presentation featured New Orleans Saints Center Will Clapp '14 as special guest, alongside Leah Brown, Corporate Affairs Manager for Chevron's Gulf of Mexico Business Unit, Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Senior Vice President Jeff Rossi and Director of Community Affairs, Alexandria Price.

Aiming to identify graduating seniors in the Greater New Orleans area that excel off the field, the Chevron Scholar-Athlete of the Week program awards a $5,000 scholarship to one male and one female. Since the program’s inception in 2015, more than 100 student-athletes have received weekly recognition and a total of $50,000 in scholarships have been awarded.

This year’s program received hundreds of applications from across the greater New Orleans area. Chosen at random, this year's recipients are Jocelyn Rivarde of Pearl River High School and Justin Unger of John Curtis Christian School.

“I’d like to acknowledge all of the outstanding student-athletes we have in the Greater New Orleans area,” said Leah Brown, Corporate Affairs Manager for Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit. “This year has not been easy for the class of 2020, so we are especially proud to partner with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation to provide scholarships for students who are proven to excel on and off the field.”

“Even during the most difficult times, it is important to celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of these student-athletes,” said Sports Foundation Director of Community Affairs Alexandria Price. “The class of 2020 has endured very challenging circumstances, but with their continued determination their future is still bright. We wish them continued success in their academic and professional careers.”
