Running Back Trio Leads the Crusaders to Victory

football vs. ehret - 2013 010Last Friday, the Crusaders traveled to Hoss Memtsas Stadium to take on the John Ehret Patriots.  Led by the Crusader two back rushing attack, Brother Martin marched down the field on their opening drive of the quarter. Jared West pick up key first downs on the drive and helped the Crusaders capture an early 3-0 lead behind a 35-yard Mitchell Boudreaux field goal.  After a fumble by Brother Martin, the Patriots scored with just 1:18 remaining in the half and kept a 6-3 lead at halftime.

On the second half kickoff, Bruce Jordan returned the kickoff 54 yards which set up a Jared West 18 yard touchdown run down the sideline to give the Crusaders a 10-6 lead.  After costly pass interference calls by Brother Martin, Ehret found the endzone on a 10 yard scramble to re-take the lead 13-10.  After another Patriot touchdown, West found the end zone for his second score of the evening making it only a 3 point game.  With 46 seconds remaining, Jordan scampered into the end zone, giving Brother Martin the 22-19 victory and a 2-0 start on the season.

Brice Johnston led the Crusaders with 22 carries for 101 yards, while Jared West had 80 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Crusaders will play Franklinton this Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.  Go ‘Saders!
