Once again, Brother Martin’s seven harriers gave the school a runner-up finish in the District 9-5A cross country meet on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025. Covering the three-mile City Park course in an average time of 16:07.59, the Crusaders placed second in the six-team meet by scoring 49 points.
Jesuit’s defending district and state championship squad took home the team trophy in another dominant showing. Led by individual winner Brady Monahan’s time of 14:51.01, Jesuit totaled 15 points by virtue of its first five runners crossing the finish line in 1-5 order. The Crusaders scored their first points on junior Caleb Carmouche’s seventh-place finish. His 15:45.40 prevented a Jesuit sweep of the first seven place finishers. Following Carmouche, Brother Martin runners crossed the finish line in ninth through 12th places, led by sophomore Jake Cammarata’s time of 16:05.11. Julien Campos ‘27 (16:13.04), William Lionnet ‘26 (16:17.18), Daniel Bonilla ‘28 (16:17.22), and Evan Galliano ‘27 (16:28.32) followed in close order. Senior Devin Nicks placed 19th in a field of 40 runners with a time of 17:35.91. Nicks and Lionnet were the only seniors to compete. Lionnet, the only runner returning from the 2024 district meet, bettered his 16:56.47 time recorded last year by nearly 40 seconds.
The team was missing two key athletes due to injury and illness, but Head Coach Drew Haro was hardly disappointed in his available runners’ efforts, considering how youthful the team members are. “With two of our regular starters out, I anticipated a lopsided score. But the remaining squad, because they wanted to step up for their missing teammates, attempted to do a little more than they were prepared to do,” said Haro. The two missing runners were senior Anders Maitrejan, who finished 14th in the 2024 district meet, and sophomore standout Carson Mills.
Holy Cross (92 points) finished third among the six teams entered, followed by John Curtis (102), Rummel (134), and St. Augustine (180). The order of finish was identical to the results of last year’s district meet. Edna Karr and Warren Easton did not enter teams.
Brother Martin is the defending Division I state runner-up and is pointing toward another high finish as the regional meet approaches. “The district meet always provides us with a great benchmark of where we are and what we need to adjust before the regional and state meets and beyond,” Haro added. “We have a great group of young men who are hungry for the next opportunity to prove themselves.”
That opportunity will come on Nov. 7 when the Crusaders join the field at the Region 3, Division I Championship Meet in City Park. Start time for their race is 12:15 p.m.
