In a spirit of unity with the parishes of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and in fervor and ardent love for Jesus Christ, Brother Martin High School has been consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Pastor of St. Ann Church, Fr. Billy O’Riordan, celebrated the consecration Mass during our first liturgy of the school year on Monday, August 17, 2026. It is no accident that this Mass began our first full week of school, and it is no surprise that, as we begin all things at Brother Martin, our year began with prayer. This consecration to the Sacred Heart is no mere ceremony or added devotion. The Sacred Heart has meant a great deal to the greater Brother Martin community, even before the founding of the school as we know it today.
St. Aloysius High School and Cor Jesu High School, the two schools that joined to form Brother Martin, were founded and led by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, who, originally travelling all the way from Lyon, France, came to the United States "to rescue young people from ignorance, to prepare them for life, and to gain them a knowledge and love of religion," which was also the basis for the order's founding in France following the French Revolution some two hundred years ago.
Why the Sacred Heart? Jesus said to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, “Announce it and let it be announced to the whole world, that I set neither limit nor measure to My gifts for those who seek them in My Heart.” Brothers of the Sacred Heart Founder, Fr. Andre Coindre, echoed Jesus' words of compassion with a simple phrase: "Never, ever doubt the love in the heart of God for you." Jump forward to today, and it is apparent that Brother Martin is already committed to this devotion and has been since its inception. At Brother Martin, whether or not a faculty member deems his or her labor successful rests entirely upon this necessity: "our work is successful if and only if a student graduates with the strong belief that God loves them."
