With great sadness, we write to inform you that Brother Martin faculty member Mr. Ricky Nuesslein passed away this weekend from a sudden and unexpected heart attack. As many of you know, Mr. Nuesslein was a member of our Social Studies department and has been a member of our Brother Martin family for his 30+ years of teaching in the tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart here in New Orleans. In addition to his role as a classroom teacher, Mr. Nuesslein has more recently served as a director of Staff Development, helping to form new and current teachers in the school’s educational mission and charism. Mr. Nuesslein has been the long time moderator of Close Up, the educational trip many of our students take each year to Washington, D.C., as well as moderator of our tennis team. He was the 2009 winner of the Brother More Schaefer, S.C., Award for his outstanding efforts to evangelize students through education.
Please pray for the repose of his soul and for the consolation to his wife Cindy, his daughter Claire, his entire extended family, and his colleagues and students here at Brother Martin who grieve this loss.
Arrangements are being made for this Saturday, June 16th, with visitation at Brother Martin from noon to 2:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will follow in the Terrace beginning at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the Nuesslein family has requested that any donations be made to the St. Aloysius Century Foundation, 4401 Elysian Fields Ave., New Orleans, LA 70122, to benefit the students at Brother Martin High School. Please contact Tommy Mitchell ’79, Development Director in the Alumni & Development Office at (504)284-6700 for more details.
Ametur Cor Jesu. Loved be the Heart of Jesus.
