Jill Gomez Receives Brother More Schaefer Faculty Award

Gomez_Jill_5x7_5334The 25th annual Brother More Schaefer faculty award presentation, recognition ceremony and luncheon was held at the Marriott Convention Center on Sunday, February 21, 2016. The Brother More Schaefer Faculty Award Recipient for 2016 was  Jill A. Gomez.  Also recognized were 30 year faculty members, Lyn Greco and David Rhodes.  Those faculty members recognized for 20 years of service were Bill Gallagher ‘71, Terry Necaise, and Stephen Tucker.  Our Founders Medal recipient was David Pecot ’76.

Jill Gomez earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education in 1990 and a Masters of Education in Counselor Education with a concentration in school and human services counseling in 1997, both at the University of New Orleans. She began her career in education as a mathematics teacher and eventually Math Department Chair at De La Salle High School. She joined the Brother Martin staff as a school counselor in August 1997.

In her nineteenth year at Brother Martin High School, she has chaired the Guidance Department for twelve years. Jill holds a national certification and state license in counseling, as well as, certification as a counselor supervisor.  Beyond the counseling office, Jill has served as National Honor Society moderator and Standardized Test Preparation Coordinator.  This past year, she was appointed Formation Director where she coordinates a number of programs designed to implement strategies that help every student find academic success and obtain personal growth.

During the summer of 2015, Jill attended Pilgrimage Lyon, an Andre Coindre Experience (PLACE).​ This leadership formation program,​ held in Lyon, France where the institute was founded​, is a seventeen day session designed to deepen the participant’s understanding of the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and to incorporate the charism into their daily lives.
