Prayer for the Feast of the Epiphany

Yesterday, January 6th, was the Epiphany of the Lord in which we celebrate God’s manifestation to the whole world in Jesus. The Epiphany takes its name from the Greek epiphania, which denotes the visit of a god to earth.  At Christmas, we contemplate the awesome fact that God has become a human child, but with the Epiphany, we look at this mystery from the opposite angle and realize that this seemingly helpless Child is, in fact, the omnipotent God, the King, and Ruler of the universe.  A second important aspect of the Epiphany is the extension of Christ's kingship to the whole world. The revelation of Christ to the wise men at Bethlehem is a symbol of His revelation to the whole Gentile world.

Let us call to mind that we are in God’s presence.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Father,

You revealed your Son to the nations by the guidance of a star.

Lead us to your glory in heaven by the light of faith.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

Ametur Cor Jesu! Ametur Cor Mariae!

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
