‘Phase 1’ at Brother Martin: May 18 – June 7, 2020

Dear Brother Martin Community,

Welcome back as we enter Phase 1 of our return to Brother Martin!

Beginning on Monday, May 18, 2020, teachers and staff who have essential work to do on campus are allowed to return. Seniors have been scheduled this week for dropping off and picking up necessary items. Underclassmen should wait for further instruction before coming to campus.

Here’s what to expect as Brother Martin conforms to state and city guidelines for returning to business in Phase 1.

  • The campus will be open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. only. There will be a presence in the administration, admissions, activities, and finance offices.
  • Enter the building through the Elysian Fields Avenue front entrance. Please note that seniors have been instructed to enter the gate that opens to the Meyer Courtyard at their scheduled time this Wednesday or Thursday.
  • Sign in at the reception desk and state the nature of your business/campus destination.
  • The receptionist will take your temperature. If it is over 100.4 degrees, you will not be allowed on campus.
  • While in the building, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing, keeping at least 6 feet between you and others.
  • Please use all safety precautions while on campus, including wiping down work areas before and after use with disinfecting wipes, which are located throughout the campus.
  • Meetings requiring multiple people should not be scheduled until Phase 2 of our return to business, which is scheduled as of now to begin on Monday, June 8. Meetings that are considered essential should be approved in advance by Ryan Gallagher.
  • If you are not feeling well or know you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please do not come to campus.
  • We encourage you to communicate your needs to the appropriate administrator, faculty, or staff member by phone or by email during our Phase 1 return.

Keeping the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families as our number one priority, we are adhering to all state and city guidelines and even adding extra ones out of caution. Our entire campus has been professionally cleaned and disinfected, and we are using a hospital-grade cleaner/mister in areas of use. In addition, we are using higher grade air filters and changing them more frequently. Our custodial staff cleans used areas daily.

We are all eager to return to our “home” on Elysian Fields Avenue, and Phase 1 practices allow for essential work only to take place. Hopefully, there will be time later this summer for other opportunities to meet and gather as needed as we continue to follow state and city guidelines. We will provide you with more information about Phase 2 when it is appropriate to do so.

As we end the 2019-2020 school year, we want to thank our students, faculty and staff, and parents for your understanding and continued support of Brother Martin High School during this unprecedented time. We are so proud of the accomplishments of our senior class of 2020 and offer them heartfelt congratulations. To our underclassmen, be assured of our continued prayers for you, especially during this upcoming exam week. We are filled with hope and know that Brother Martin High School continues to be a thriving sanctuary for our young men.
