In Sunday’s winner’s bracket game of the American Legion 1st District City Series, the Brother Martin-based Peake BMW found itself matched up with Jesuit-based Retif Oil for the third time this summer.
The game was a pitcher’s duel early as the two starters cruised through the first five innings with the game remaining scoreless. Peake BMW scored the game’s first run when Jacob Seward scored on a missed fly ball to make it 1-0, but Jesuit-based Retif Oil answered with three runs in the seventh against reliever Gongora.
Trailing 3-1 in the eighth, Peake BMW rallied against the Retif Oil reliever. Daniel Lahare drove in Blake Battle with a double to left, and Gongora drove in two runs with a two-out double to give Peake the lead. Parker Oubre followed with an RBI walk to make the final score 5-3.
With the win, Peake BMW (17-3-1) advances to the championship game today at 4:30 p.m. against Retif Oil, which knocked off Post 307 in the afternoon game.
