Peake BMW Defeats Retif Oil 5-3 in Extra Innings

DSC_0043In the ninth meeting of the season for Brother Martin-based Peake BMW and Jesuit-based Retif Oil, it was Peake BMW that emerged from the battle with a 5-3 victory in 10 innings in the American Legion State tournament at McMurray Park in Sulphur on Sunday.  This was the second extra inning game in a row for Peake BMW after going 15 innings the night before.

Tyler Zamjahn started on the mound for Peake BMW and eventually gave way to Andrew Boucvalt after issuing a walk late in the game. Back to back singles loaded the bases with one out. However, Boucvalt fanned the next two batters to preserve the win.

Prior to the 10th, Zamjahn managed to scatter most of the hits, until the fourth inning, when Retif Oil had three consecutive doubles with one out, resulting in two runs scored.  In the top of the seventh, Parker Oubre and Battle walked, and Brice Johnston hit an RBI single to drive in Oubre. Cody Ducote hit a triple, scoring Battle and Johnston to tie the score at 3.

Now, Peake BMW will face Gauthier & Amedee in a winner’s bracket game while Retif Oil will meet the River Ridge Patriots in an elimination game 30 minutes following the conclusion of a 1:30 p.m. contest between Hahnville-based Otto Candies and the Crowley Millers.
