Monday afternoon, Brother Martin-based Peake BMW met Holy Cross-based Ponstein’s Grocery in the final American Legion game of the regular season. Peake BMW (13-3) picked up a 3-2 win.
Peake BMW took an early 1–0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sac-fly by Cody Decote which scored Blake Battle, who had reached on a fielder’s choice. Daniel Lahare worked the count to earn a walk before both runners moved up on a wild pitch to set up Ducote’s fly to right.
The game would remain scoreless until Peake broke through with two runs in the fifth on a single by Owen Magee. Parker Oubre singled followed by Jacob Seward reaching via a hit by pitch. Ponstein’s came right back in the sixth scoring two runs of their own.
In the seventh, Ponstein’s mounted a scare as two batters singled but Ebersole was able to entice a grounder to shortstop to retire the side.
Owen Magee, a rising senior, led Peake BMW, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The American Legion playoffs will get started Friday with Peake BMW facing Post 307 at 5:30 p.m.
