Peake BMW Claims Legion First District Title

IMG_0694Coming down to the last at bat, Brother Martin-based Peake BMW scored two runs in the top of the ninth resulting in a 5-3 victory over Jesuit-based Retif Oil to capture the 1st District Championship at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium Tuesday.

Retief Oil held a 3-0 advantage through five innings, but in the sixth inning, Peake BMW finally got things going with scoring three runs to tie it up.

Frederick, who got the start for Peake BMW on the mound, walked three batters and gave up a single in the bottom of the second inning to break the scoreless tie at 1-0.  In the fourth, Retif came through with a 2 RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.

In the top of the sixth, Peake started to get things going.  Rafael Deroche crushed a two-run double to cut the deficit to one. The next batter, Jonathan Parker, roped another double down the third-base line passed the diving outfielder to even the game up at 3-all.

Three innings later, Joel Bergeron drew a two-out walk, and Michael Kirsch followed with a single to load the bases. With a full count, Blair Frederick drew a walk, and Owen Magee followed to give Peake BMW a 5-3 victory and the title.

Both teams advanced to the Southeast Regionals, which begin Saturday, July 5 at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
