Peake BMW Captures American Legion District 1 Title!

IMG_0037Peake BMW got things started early scoring three runs on four hits in the top of the first. Jacob Seward singled and moved to second on a wild pitch then scored on a Bryce Johnston RBI single. Daniel Lahare followed with a single then advanced to second as Johnston went to third. Cody Ducote doubled to right center driving in both, making the score 3-0 before Retif had recorded an out.  In the bottom of the second, Retif tied the score after some costly errors.

Johnston led off the third with a walk, then scored on a double from Daniel Lahare.  Ducote followed with an RBI double of his own, making the score 5-3.  Owen Magee advanced Ducote to third base after his singled off the Retif Oil reliever.  After a sac fly by Jarrett Gongora scored Ducote, the inning ended on a 4-6-3 double play.

In the fifth, Doug Fair replaced starting pitcher Luke Bernard on the mound for Peake BMW and gave up a doubel and a walk on his first two batters. Fair was replaced by Gongora and he uncorked a wild pitch which allowed both runners to advance and eventually score to make it 6–5.

Peake scored an insurance run in the eighth started by a walk to Lahare and a single by Ducote to lead off the inning. The second Retif reliever of the game gave up an RBI single to Magee to make the score 7–5. But, with two men on and no outs, Retif struck out the side; however, the damage was done.

In the last two innings, both teams threatened to score, but clutch defense kept the score at 7-5.  This win allowed Peake BMW to claim the American Legion District 1 Championship, their first since 2008.  Both teams will advance to the Southeast Regional Saturday at Kirsch Rooney.
