Nola.com Remembers Hal Cervini '51 SA

HaroldCerviniHarold ‘Hal’ Cervini ’51 SA, a member of the St. Aloysius and Tulane basketball teams, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the age of 85. Cervini, who was also known as “The Cat”, played at St. Aloysius for coach Johnny Altobello and led the Crusaders to three state championships games and captured two titles. Those titles helped him grab a spot on two all-state teams. Coming out of high school, he was considered one of the nation’s top point guards and broke numerous records while at Tulane. While playing at Tulane, he was a two-time second team All-SEC pick. In 1982, he was inducted into Tulane’s Hall of Fame and later on inducted into the Allstate Sugar Bowl Hall of Fame.

After his playing days, he coached at De La Salle, Chalmette, and South Terrebonne before he was given the position of supervisor of Algiers playgrounds in 1970. Cervini retired at age 62 from NORD.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced for Cervini.
