NJROTC WINS FIRST PLACE AT TULANE UNIVERSITY DRILL MEET

On Saturday, 19 November 2011, the Brother Martin NJROTC unit competed in and won First Place in the Tulane University NJROTC Area Eight Drill Meet. A total of (13) JROTC schools from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida competed in this important Drill Meet in an effort to possibly earn a berth to the Regional Championship known as a “Super Meet.”  This year’s “Super Meet” is scheduled to take place at Southern University in March 2012, and the victory by the Brother Martin NJROTC unit at Tulane sealed a berth to the Regional Championship for Brother Martin.  The top teams at the Regional Championships will earn berths to the NJROTC National Championship Drill Meet in Pensacola, Florida.  The Tulane Drill Meet matched the Brother Martin NJROTC Unit against some of the toughest units in Area Eight, including Picayune High School and regional power house St. Amant. The Drill Meet consisted of an academic exam, a personnel inspection, armed and unarmed drill routines, a color guard drill routine, and the athletic competition, which consisted of push-ups, sit-ups, running, and the “Tug of War.” Each event was judged by NROTC Midshipmen from Tulane University. Brother Martin placed 1ST overall in the Drill Meet and also placed 1st in Academics, 1st in Athletics, 2nd in Unarmed Basic Drill and 2nd in Tandem Exhibition Armed Drill.  The trophies from this Drill Meet are currently on display at the Brother Martin Bookstore.  The NJROTC Unit now looks forward to the next big Drill Meet at Neshoba Central High School on 3 December in Northern Mississippi. “Bravo Zulu” (Job Well Done), Crusaders.
