Twenty three Cadets from Brother Martin NJROTC had the privilege of a VIP tour of the USS WASP on Tuesday, April 28. Marines and Sailors opened exhibits before general tours started. Cadets experienced hands on time with equipment, providing a vital link to the material studied in class. Cadets climbed aboard the LRAP, AAV, M1A1, LCAC, HUMMWV and the MH60S in addition to other equipment. If that sounds like a lot of letters that don’t make sense, our Cadets can tell you all about their experience. They learned first hand about some of the vehicles, weapon systems, survival equipment and lifesaving equipment that keeps our Sailors and Marines working. They were able to climb aboard a helicopter, see from the turret of an up-armored vehicle and even race to see who could dress out in the fire fighting equipment first.
Throughout the experience, Cadets learned how the Sailors and Marines must constantly learn, train and keep current on all skills. With such a critical mission, they don’t have time to make mistakes or try to remember what they learned in training. Constant studying, training and maintaining qualifications and equipment keep our forces strong.
