The Brother Martin NJROTC unit traveled to Navy Base Gulfport, Mississippi, to participate in the 15th Annual Volkslauf Mud Run on Saturday, 10 September 2011. Every year, teams and individuals from different NJROTC units, ROTC units, military bases, and civilian groups visit the Sea Bee Base in order to compete in the mud-covered four-mile obstacle
course. The primary goal of the race is to physically challenge the competitors while also allowing them to get dirty and have some fun. This year, the Brother Martin NJROTC unit had two cadets who finished the race in the top ten
runners of their division. Cadet Chief Petty Officer Terrell Brunet placed 4th and Cadet Seaman Apprentice Daniel Bruza placed 5th within the Male Teen Division. The race ended with all of the runners getting “washed down†by base Fire Department Trucks. The event concluded with an awards ceremony, grilled hot dogs and official Volkslauf T-Shirts being distributed to all competitors.
