New Crusaders Complete a Successful Summer Enrichment

IMG_1240The final two weeks of Summer Enrichment were filled with more academics, new activities, and with plenty of Crusader Spirit. Week 2 presented students with opportunities to continue developing the skills that they will need in the academic classroom setting and also allowed students to participate in new afternoon activities such as Soccer, Rugby, and Baseball, along with Academics, Game Programming, Basketball, and Cross Country/Conditioning.

During the final week of Summer Enrichment, Week 3, students had the opportunity to participate in a ‘Day of Service’ where they began to learn about the Christian Service requirements of all Brother Martin students. The 8th grade students rotated through three stations in which they met with a speaker from Ozanam Inn to learn about the homeless population here in the city of New Orleans and how their assistance provides opportunities for the homeless. In addition, students made over 500 sandwiches to be handed out to the homeless that evening for dinner at Ozanam Inn, and packed over 300 bags of toiletry items to be handed out to the homeless.

On Tuesday, students were allowed to bring a friend or prospective Crusader to spend-the-day with them. Prospective Crusaders attended academic classes in the morning, ate lunch in the Benson Mall, and participated with our current Crusaders in a ‘Crazy Olympic’ challenge in the afternoon. Wednesday was Intramural Day where students formed teams and competed against one another in Basketball, Flag Football, Speedball, and Dodgeball. The final two days included a trip to LynHaven for fun and games. Students had the options to enjoy swimming, basketball, ping-pong, volleyball, fishing, paddle boats, cabbage ball, and a BBQ style lunch. The final day concluded with the normal rotation of Friday Field Trip experiences of: etiquette at the Rib Room, canoeing on Cane Bayou, or a trip to Gulf Islands Waterpark.
