Myth and Might Have Been: Latin Class Creates Models for the Ancient World

This Quarter, Mr. Ed Merritt's Latin students have been exploring the ancient world through the pieces they have left behind. Since we can only make assumptions and guesses on how the world worked then from the literature and architecture, the students sought to understand who these people were based on what they could find and interpret what they found for modern audiences.

Latin I has spent time with ancient myths, thinking about how these stories inform the ones they see in film today. The models represent either the original myth they are reviewing or the modern reinterpretation of what the story was about.

Latin II has spent time with ancient art and architecture, attempting to argue why these ruins deserve to be preserved or even restored. The models represent either what remains of the ancient edifice, or a scholarly attempt at recreating these works (on a small scale).
