On Saturday, September 22nd, The Mu Alpha Theta club hosted a Middle School Math tournament that included 160 students from 17 different schools. The participants started the morning with math carnival games that allowed them to earn tickets toward winning various prizes.
Brother Martin MAϴ Historian, Zach Stolberg '19 said "This was my first time working the BMHS Middle School Math Tournament. It was really cool to see all the middle schoolers having such a fun time doing math."
The morning continued with both individual and team tests in four different math levels: 6th-Grade Math, 7th-Grade Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra I. After the tests, the students were randomly assigned to teams to participate in a math relay in the Conlin Gym. Students competed by grade level, running back and forth answering math-related questions given by their captain, a Mu Alpha Theta club member.
MAϴ President, Y Ho '19 commented, "The math relay was definitely my favorite part. I remember being an 8th grader at Brother Martin and competing in this tournament. It was really cool to see the math relay from the other side now and see the joy that these kids show while doing some math!"
Congratulations to the Mu Alpha Theta for hosting a very successful Middle School Math Tournament and helping younger students to appreciate and enjoy math.
