The University of New Orleans (UNO) International Alumni Association announced that Brother Martin Alumnus Mark Romig will be honored with the 2016 University of New Orleans Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Alumni Award. This is the highest honor awarded to a former privateer. Romig will receive his award at the Distinguished Alumni Gala, which will be held at the National WWII Museum’s United States Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center on Thursday, November 3 from 7 p.m. -10 p.m.
While at Brother Martin, he participated in chorus, newspaper, Key Club, intramurals, etc. He was also a Golden Crusader and a recipient of the Richard E. Lambert Award. He graduated from Brother Martin in 1974 then continued his studies at UNO. He completed UNO with a bachelor’s degree in hotel, restaurant and tourism administration in 1978. Currently, he is president and CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC). In addition, he willl be the stadium announcer for the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this football season. Romig continues to be an avid volunteer in the GNO area and considered a leader in the community.
