On Thursday, AP US History and Honors/Dual Enrollment US History students in Mr. Vicknair's class welcomed Dr. Jonathan Earle, Dean of the Ogden Honors College at LSU and antebellum historian, for a videoconference lecture entitled "History and Memory." Addressing the events at the U.S. Capitol last week, Dr. Earle discussed previous periods of national tensions and violence at the Capitol. Dr. Earle also talked about college admissions and answered questions about the Ogden Honors College at LSU.
"In a presentation to our U.S. history class, Dean Earle, head of the LSU honors college, contrasted regional memories of historical events with historians’ context-based history, while comparing the importance of the recent act of domestic terrorism on the Capital with its past acts of violence." - Bryan MacDowell '22
"The Zoom with Dean Earle helped us give context to modern events by tying them to similar historical ones. In addition, his information about the LSU Honors College made me eager to apply as soon as possible." - Andrew Biehl '22
