The Brother Martin students, faculty, and visitors gathered on Wednesday in celebration of the founding of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart 194 years ago in Lyon, France. Director of Formation, Mrs. Jill Gomez, began the ceremony with an introduction about her journey of the charism of the Brothers’ mission. In addition, she expressed her gratitude for the Brothers and her being able to participate as a lay partner in the mission to educate and minister to students each day. Ordained Brother Louis Couvillon, S.C., was the celebrant. His homily elaborated on Mrs. Gomez’s remarks, and he introduced Andrew Hendrickson, class of 2016, who shared his personal testimony/reflection on attending the inaugural Brothers of the Sacred Heart Summer Assembly at St. Stanislaus.
At the conclusion of the Foundation Day Liturgy, Chairman of the Board of Directors Judge Robert Burns, ’59 SA; school President John Devlin; and school Principal Greg Rando ’77 presented pins and plaques to the 2015 Academic Scholars. Today’s celebration and Mass were fitting ways to recognize the rich tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart worldwide and here in New Orleans and to prepare for the promise of the school’s bright future.
Following the Mass the scholarship recipients and families were treated to a breakfast social in the Brother Mark Thornton Terrace.
