As the 2016 hurricane season comes to a safe conclusion, the hurricane season in Mr. Josh Thomas’s 8th and 9th Grade Earth Science classes is intensifying. The Library is hosting Mr. Thomas’s students this week as they expand their knowledge of hurricanes and develop their research skills. Students are working in groups to investigate ten historically significant hurricanes. The students will locate print and digital resources with the help of the librarians, Mrs. Keiren Aucoin and Ms. Lauren Rhodes, to gather facts about their hurricane, including the path of the storm and vital statistics, such as wind speed and atmospheric pressure. The students will also learn how to graph using Google Sheets and create a visual presentation using Google Slides to teach the other groups about their hurricane and its impact. The students are excited about applying the knowledge they have gained in class this quarter to a hands-on, creative project in the Library.
