On Wednesday, March 26th, the Brother Martin community celebrated a school-wide Lenten Liturgy. During the liturgy, members of the Brother Martin & Catholic High Student Ministry Teams presented items to remember Mrs. Judy Stewart who recently passed away. Mrs. Stewart was an advocate on campus for social justice and welcoming diversity. She served the Brothers of the Sacred Heart’s educational charism for over thirty years, first at Catholic High in Baton Rouge and then here at Brother Martin. Just a few of her accomplishments are the implementation of a retreat program at every grade level, a tiered and sustained community service hour program, and innovative and challenging student and faculty formation in the Catholic Church’s social justice teachings.
At the conclusion of the Mass, Mrs. Stewart was posthumously awarded the Colin Dugas Award for Social Justice, an award she originated but was never eligible to receive because she was a member of its selection committee. Her son Michael, daughter Kara, and cousin Connie were present to accept this award.
