Congratulations to the Varsity Lacrosse team for winning the 2016 Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic this weekend. The team scored 63 goals in seven games with only ten goals scored against them. Leading the Crusaders in scoring was Edwin Pigeon ’16 with 13 goals; Lee Davis ’16 with 12 goals; Noah Velez ’18 with eight goals; and Dylan Mattio ‘17 and Nicolas Benedetto ’17 with seven goals each. Playoff wins over the Catholic High Bears by a score of 7-2; and the St. Paul’s Wolves 4-3, advanced the Crusaders to the title game against the Northshore Spartans.
Goalie’s Jack Rau ‘18 and Holden Savoie ‘16 preserved the wins in other games with three shutout games against the St. Martin Saints 15-0, the Lafayette Hurricanes 8-0, and the Baton Rouge Central High Wildcats 14-0, which helped advance the Crusaders to the final round.
The Crusader LAX team played a tough Spartan team in the final and Holden Savoie, senior goalie, limited the Spartans to two goals on 15 shots, as the Crusaders won the championship game 7-2.
In the JV Division the JV Lacrosse team also had wins over Jesuit’s freshman team 3-0, Holy Cross Tigers 4-2, and St. Paul’s freshman 4-3, but then had a tough lost to St. Thomas Moore Cougars 2-4.
The U-15 Team also had a great victory over the Lafayette Hurricanes 4-3, and endured a tough loss against the Baton Rouge Mustangs 2-3.
