Lacrosse Wins on Senior Day

Crusader Varsity Lacrosse celebrated Senior Day with a win over the Ocean Springs Greyhounds by a score of 12 – 3.  A tremendous defensive effort was led by Garrett Frey ‘16 with three take-aways, and Brett Robinson ‘16 with two take-aways; Lee Davis ‘16, Matthew Coscino ‘16, and Kerby Stieffel ‘16 also had one block each to help stop the Greyhounds.  Holden Savoie ‘16 preserved the win with 11 goalie saves.  The offense was led by Lee Davis ‘16 with four goals and four assists; other goals were scored by Jack Bryant ‘16, Edwin Pigeon ‘16, Jackson Schneider ‘18, Dylan Mattio ‘17, and Felipe Gomez ‘18.  The win puts the Crusaders into the playoffs which start on April 14.

The JV team also had an exciting game, as they were trailing at half time 3 – 1, the Crusaders came alive in the second half as James Bender ‘18, Patrick Evans ‘19, and Will Walsten ‘19 scored five additional goals giving  JV the win 6 – 4 over the Greyhounds.

In addition, Senior Day was celebrated on Saturday with 15 Lacrosse Seniors moving on to college after this season.  Senior pictures were taken with parents and school administration, flowers were presented to all the moms by their sons, and T-Shirts were provided to the Seniors.  The 2016 Lacrosse Senior players are:  Kerby Stieffel, Holden Savoie, Keaton Day, Dylan Gourgues, Lee Davis, Edwin Pigeon, Brett Robinson, Jace Colby, Christopher Wessel, Garrett Frey, Jack Bryant, Paul Barranco, Matthew Coscino, Ben Willis, and Christopher Herrera.

The Crusaders will host 26 teams at the annual Lacrosse-in-the-Park Tournament from Friday, April 8th – Sunday, April 10th at Muss Bertolino in Kenner.
