Wrestler Paul Klein has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month honor for February. The monthly award-winners are chosen in voting by the Greater New Orleans Sports Award Selection Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Senior Paul Klein won his fourth state title as he closed out his high school wrestling career. Paul is the first wrestler in 71 years of the Louisiana state wrestling tournament to win four individual titles. Paul was also named the Most Outstanding Grappler in Division I after finishing the season with an undefeated 44-0 record. Klein completed his amazing career as a Crusader with a 166-10 record, including 82 pins. He also holds a 3.4 GPA in the classroom.
Among the many other honors, he was named a National High School Coaches Association Junior All-American and a Wrestling USA All-American. His leadership helped Brother Martin capture its fourth consecutive team state championship in Division I. The state title was the 16th in school history for the Crusaders outstanding wrestling program.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month since 1958. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Congratulations, Paul!
